9th Annual Brave Like Gabe 5K Recap

A Month of Movement for Research

Throughout the month of June, more than 1,000 people around the world participated in the 9th Annual Brave Like Gabe 5K events. Some joined us virtually from as far as Sweden and Germany, and many of you joined us at one of our 9 pop-up locations across the United States. Three hundred people, plus six llamas, joined us on Gabe’s birthday right here in St. Paul, Minnesota for our flagship 5K event. All together we raised more than $50,000 for rare cancer research!

In her life, Gabe believed that each day was a gift and she lived by a powerful mantra of “Until further notice, celebrate everything.” We honored her joy of celebration at this year’s annual 5K by hosting the event on what would have been her 40th birthday. And celebrate we did! Our brave community gathered in St. Paul on a gorgeous Thursday evening where we started off the festivities with a Abby’s Run for kids, named in honor of Gabe’s beloved sister. Family and friends gathered to run, walk, and provide moral support as cheerleaders along the way. We welcomed Dine 1-1 and La Tapatia food trucks, our good friend Goldy Gopher, and our newest llama friends!

The Brave Like Gabe Foundation is dedicated to funding rare cancer research and empowering all cancer survivors through physical activity. The annual 5K is a celebration of movement for many cancer survivors, loved ones, and caretakers. Proceeds from the events go directly to supporting the foundation's mission. We’d love your feedback on this year’s events as we plan for our 10th Annual Brave Like Gabe 5K in 2027!
