8th Annual Brave Like Gabe 5K Recap
A Month of Movement for the 2025 Brave Like Gabe 5K
The 8th Annual Brave Like Gabe 5K brought together nearly 1,000 participants globally, with 400 runners at the St. Paul flagship event on September 20th, 2025. Throughout September, runners participated virtually, at pop-up gatherings, and in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Brave Like Gabe 5K was completed in ten different countries! Together, through registration fees, merchandise sales, and fundraising efforts, we raised over $60,000 for rare cancer research.
Participants wrote names of loved ones on the “I Run to be Brave Like” bibs, wore “Running On Hope” temporary tattoos, and pinned on Survivor bibs to recognize their own cancer journey. In 2018, at the inaugural Brave Like Gabe 5K, Gabe Grunewald summed up the magic by saying, “Today I can tell you that this life with a rare, incurable cancer, on certain, special days, can be a life lived in technicolor.” Her words continue to resonate every year.
The Brave Like Gabe Foundation is dedicated to funding rare cancer research and empowering all cancer survivors through physical activity. The annual 5K is a celebration of movement for many cancer survivors, loved ones, and caretakers. Proceeds from the 5K directly support the foundation's mission.
